SBWC (Brasilian Society of Wellness Coaching)
Wellness and health coaching is growing around the world and the interest in Brazil is enthusiastic!
I’m Dr. Michael Arloski, CEO and Founder of Real Balance Global Wellness Services, llc, and The Wellness Coach Training Institute, and the author of Wellness Coaching For Lasting Lifestyle Change. Our company has trained over 2,500 wellness coaches worldwide. This last October I was fortunate to train an amazing group of wellness coaches in Sao Paulo who came from all over this great country of Brazil. At that five-day intensive training a movement emerged to create an organization that could help health and wellness coaches in Brazil to be better connected and to promote wellness coaching in general across the country.
WHY WELLNESS COACHING?
While business and executive coaching (life coaching) is already an important part of Brazil’s way of living and doing business, health and wellness coaching is much newer and has a different emphasis. Although most life coaches will eventually work with their clients around work-life balance, the majority of their work is usually not about lifestyle improvement.
This definition is from The National Consortium for Credentialing Health and Wellness Coaches (USA), of which I am a member of the Leadership Team.
“Certified Health and Wellness Coaches are professionals from diverse backgrounds and education who work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Successful coaching takes place when coaches apply clearly defined knowledge and skills so that clients mobilize internal strengths and external resources for sustainable change.”
Wellness coaches help people to succeed at Lasting Lifestyle Change. They are usually already wellness professionals or coaches who work as nurses, health educators, counselors, psychologists, fitness trainers, dieticians, and therapists of all kinds. They have found that being competently trained in real behavioral change methodologies is essential to their success in helping people to attain and maintain a healthy weight, stop smoking, manage stress better, etc.
SBWC has the potential to be an organization that helps the Brazilian public and the Brazilian healthcare sector become aware of the benefits of wellness coaching to individuals, corporations and organizations, and to society as a whole. It has the potential to be an organization that allows wellness coaches and those interested in becoming wellness coaches to connect and help further each other’s professional development.
I look forward to helping develop these possibilities together!
Be well!
